Funding Scheme 2010/11

More clubs/soc than ever before have applied for funding and their ambitions plans mean that there is even more demand on the FXU budget. The budget is finite and so to divide the money as fairly as possible we have adopted a funding strategy based on research of other universities.

There are 4 funding categories. Funding has been allocated to items that FXU deem essential, based on the information supplied in the budget proposal. It also takes into consideration the number of paid members the previous year, income generated and the level of club/soc activity.

Category 1: A club/soc with less than 10 paid members may affiliate to FXU by way of a £1 per member affiliation fee, but will not be eligible for funding.

Category 2: New clubs/socs and those that had less than 10 paid members in 2009.10 will be awarded £50, which must only be spent in accordance with FXU guidelines.

Category 3: Societies
FXU Societies Definition: A student group who voluntarily meet on a regular basis for a mutual purpose including educational, religious, social pursuits. This may include an active pastime.
FXU will only contribute to items that we feel are essential to the running of the Society. Funding will be released as a percentage of the membership you have achieved.

Category 4: Sports Clubs

FXU Sports Club Definition: A student group who meet on a regular basis for a mutual sporting purpose.  The club revolves around physical activity that is governed by a set of rules and involves an element of competition.

FXU will only contribute to items that we feel are essential to the running of the club. Funding will be released as a percentage of the membership you have achieved.

A club/soc may forfeit its budget if it:
• Fails to attract sufficient members
• Fails to bank sufficient membership by the deadline - Friday 29th October 2010
• Fails to comply with FXU guidelines on funding
• Fails to maintain sufficient attendance at club training sessions or to fulfil fixtures– relates to sports clubs
• Fails to submit required paperwork such as club/soc activity risk assessments, mid-year (new requirement for 2010/11) and an end of year report.

IMPORTANT: All funding will be monitored closely throughout the year. Funding will be released as a percentage of the membership you have achieved, so it is important to ensure all your members sign up and pay. The deadline for membership fees is Friday 29th October 2010, therefore if the membership is dramatically lower that expected the funding allocation will decrease proportionately. We will review budgets at the end of each term and this may involve the reallocating of funds.

Treasurers Training – FXU aim’s to give Treasurers increased training and support this year. All Treasurers must make an appointment to see the FXU Sports Team to attend a briefing session. This is to ensure that all money handling is done in accordance with FXU and audit requirements. Attendance at a briefing by 18/10/10 is a requirement of FXU affiliation.

ADDITIONAL FUNDING INFO:
FXU Performance Award
FXU have developed a Performance Award. FXU have awarded two clubs with a Performance Award (additional funding). These clubs will still need to generate additional income to fulfil their plans for the year ahead.
Criteria for award:
(a) Activity level 2009/10
(b) Membership numbers 2009/10
(c) Level of individual member contribution 2009/10
(d) Level of proposed activity 2010/11
(e) Development plan

(f) Funds required to sustain current level of activity

Additional awards to clubs/soc for outstanding achievements may be made during the year, depending on the general level of club/soc activity and the reallocation of funds.

FXU Scholarship Scheme

In 2010/11 there will combined scholarship for Falmouth and Exeter sports scholars. The fund will be smaller than in previous years (so that there is more money in the main pot to benefit more students) and so the sporting standard required to obtain funding will be higher. Students of outstanding sporting ability who show evidence of achievement at a high level can apply to be considered for the scheme by completing an application form.
