CORNISH MARINE LIFE RESCUE VOLUNTEER TRAINIING: Free one-day course for student volunteers! - contact me to put your name down for the 2011 Spring Term date.
The silver dolphin centre in Penzance runs this one day workshop to provide training for local volunteers. The morning session is classroom based and the afternoon is a practical session on cetacean rescue.
Morning Session:
A look at the anatomy and biology of cetaceans.  An introduction into the different species found around the Cornish coast and their identification. The action that needs to be taken when caring for live strandings.
Afternoon Session:
The afternoon session will consist of a practical demonstration of care and refloatation of a stranded cetacean.
By the end of the day you will have an understanding of cetaceans around the southwest coast of England, the problems they face when they strand and how we can help.
Please email me - communityaction@fxu.org.uk or call me on 01326 253631 or pop in to the FXU office to put your name down if you are interested.  There is no charge for this course and transport will be provided by the FXU but we do require a deposit of £5 to secure your place on the minibus. You get this back in full on the day (it just stops people signing up and then not turning up)  A great opportunity! (SPACES GO FAST!)

CATS PROTECTION volunteers needed at Falmouth and Helston branches:
We need enthusiastic volunteers to help at our Falmouth, Helston and District Branch in the following areas:
Fundraising - helping to raise funds for the Falmouth Branch.  We need someone with new ideas,  good team player, people skills, delegator and organiser.  We also need individual helpers to help with events and collections.
Home Visiting - to make sure we have found the right home for cats and right cat for the potential new owners! If you are good with people, organised and enjoy fact finding, this role is for you - training is provided
Cat Fostering - this role is intrinsical to Cats Protection.  You will need to have time and commitment as you would take care of cats and kittens whilst we find them new homes.  the cats live in pens in your garden supplied by us.  you would also need to be approachable as potential adopters may come to look at the cats in your care.  Foster training is provided.
Cats protection provides  temporary accomodation and care for unwanted and abandoned cats until new homes are found.  We also offer information and advice about reponsible cat ownership and the benefits of neutering.
Our branches are groups of volunteers who give their time and skills on a regular basis.  They work as a team to achieve all of the above locally.
