Academic Representation

Academic Representation

FXU are involved in representing students in academic issues in a number of ways:

FXU Presidents representing students

FXU Presidents represent students on a number of committees and boards such as the University College Falmouth Academic Board and Learning, Teaching and Access Committee; the University of Exeter Uni-Guild Liaison Group, UoECC Student-Staff-Liaison Committee.

Linking with the Student-Staff-Liaison-Groups (SSLGs) (University College Falmouth) and Student-Staff-Liaison-Committees (SSLCs) (University of Exeter Cornwall Campus)

Up until 2010, UCF used a course rep and course committee system, however the university has developed a new system 'Student-Staff-Liaison-Groups' to start from the 2011-12 academic year. Essentially, the SSLG's and SSLC’s have the same role for UCF and UECC respectively. As they relate to the separate institutions, they simply have slightly different names and are organised slightly differently by each institution. However, both systems elect a student rep from each year/level of each course. UECC SSLC meetings occur at least once a term. Students have the opportunity to to raise issues with academic staff and provide student feedback to those staff. More details on UCF's SSLGs will be posted here as soon as they are available.

The FXU President UECC is a member of all Cornwall Campus SSLC’s and regularly attends. The FXU President UCF will keep up to date with SSLG meetings and hopes to attend School meetings where information from the SSLGs will be reported. The Presidents can then support students in these systems and take action when appropriate.

Students are encouraged to raise any academic issues they have through their school/subject rep, some of whom will be representing students on both an SSLG/SSLC as well as the FXU Student Council. To find out who the student rep is for your course/year group and for information on these meetings, the following weblinks should help (or just come and ask at FXU or your universities academic office/support unit). SSLG/SSLC are usually recruited by weeks 3-4 of term.

FXU Student Co uncil

Even though the SSLGs and SSLCs are the first point of call for academic issues, students can also bring academic issues to FXU Student Council if they feel they are not satisfied with the response or if they feel that students in other schools/subjects would be interested (this of course can be good practice as well as dissatisfaction). It is also a way to collectively take action with other students to have more of an impact in changing something that is affecting yours or fellow students' experience.
